FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

Contact Kid Spot at hello@kidspotcenter.com or 973-996-8030. Parents can self-refer their child as we do not require a physician’s referral or prescription to get started. We will schedule either an Initial Consultation or a Speech-Language Evaluation. Following this, we will determine if therapy is recommended.

Kid Spot provides office visits within Early Start Academy in Livingston, New Jersey. We also offer home, daycare, and preschool visits in various locations across Essex County, including Livingston, Short Hills, Millburn, South Orange, Maplewood, and Florham Park. Additionally, teletherapy services are available in New Jersey and New York states.

Your child may benefit from speech-language therapy if you answer “yes” to one or more of the following questions:

  • Is my child behind in meeting their speech and language developmental milestones?
  • Does my child have difficulty understanding what others say or following directions?
  • Does my child struggle to express their thoughts and feelings clearly?
  • Have teachers or caregivers expressed concerns about my child’s speech or language skills?
  • Does my child exhibit frustration when trying to communicate?
  • Is my child’s speech difficult for family members or peers to understand?
  • Does my child have a limited vocabulary compared to peers of the same age?
  • Does my child struggle to play with others or take turns in conversation?
  • Does my child avoid engaging in conversation or social interaction?
  • Have there been any significant changes in my child’s eating or swallowing behaviors?
  • Does my child use gestures more than words to communicate?
  • Has my child shown challenges with reading, writing, or academic performance related to communication skills?
  • Do my child’s speech or language challenges impact their self-esteem or social interactions?
  • Is there a family history of speech-language disorders?
  • Does your child have another diagnosis that puts them at risk for speech-language difficulties, such as a genetic disorder or Autism?

Kid Spot is considered an out-of-network provider. We will supply you with a superbill detailing the services you received. You can then submit the superbill to your insurance company for out-of-network reimbursement on your own. We advise that you check your out-of-network benefits with your insurance company beforehand.

All new clients must undergo an assessment before starting treatment, unless an assessment has been completed in the last 6 months. Assessments are crucial for understanding your child’s current level of functioning, identifying areas of concern, and establishing treatment goals.a

Please take note of the following: 

  • While Kid Spot understands that illnesses and emergencies can occur, we respectfully require that you avoid frequent cancellations or “no shows”. 
  • We ask for a 24-hour notice to avoid a cancellation fee. 
  • Whenever possible, we will work with the family to switch in-person sessions to teletherapy to ensure continuity of care. 
  • Advance notification for any cancellations resulting from conflicting appointments, vacations, work or family obligations, or any other events is always appreciated. 
  • Please refer to our cancellation policy in your intake paperwork for additional information.
